چکیده
External electric fields (EEFs) have proven to be very efficient in catalysing chemical reactions, even those inaccessible via wet-chemical synthesis. At the single-molecule level, oriented EEFs been successfully used promote situ reactions absence of catalysts. Here, we elucidate effect an on structure and conductance a molecular junction. Employing scanning tunnelling microscopy break junction (STM-BJ) experiments, form electrically characterize junctions two tetramethyl carotene isomers. Two discrete signatures show up more prominently at low high applied voltages which are univocally ascribed trans cis isomers carotenoid, respectively. The difference between both cis-/trans- is concordance with previous predictions considering π-quantum interference due presence single gauche defect isomer. Electronic calculations suggest that field polarizes molecule mixes excited states. mixed states (spectroscopically) allowed transition and, therefore, can cis-isomerization participate electron transport. Our work opens new routes for control isomerisation contacts.

An electric field induced reversible single-molecule fluorescence switch.
We report that by applying an electric field to a single squaraine-derived rotaxane (SR) molecule on bare glass, the fluorescence can be completely quenched. The molecule undergoes a reversible fluorescence switch between a zero-field "on" state and a high-field "off" state, which is attributed to intramolecular electron transfer within the SR molecule.

While the single-molecule conductance properties of π-conjugated and σ-conjugated systems have been well-studied, little is known regarding the conductance properties of mixed σ-π backbone wires and the factors that control their transport properties. Here we utilize a scanning tunneling microscope-based break-junction technique to study a series of molecular wires with π-σ-π backbone structure...

Here we study the stability and rupture of molecular junctions under high voltage bias at the single molecule/single bond level using the scanning tunneling microscope-based break-junction technique. We synthesize carbon-, silicon-, and germanium-based molecular wires terminated by aurophilic linker groups and study how the molecular backbone and linker group affect the probability of voltage-i...
متن کاملCis-trans effects induced by linkage disequilibrium.
This note concerns theoretical and experimental studies of multifactorial traits, especially fitness and its components, in which (1) the loci studied are only a subset of those relevant to the character of interest and (2) the genotypes at the loci studied are in nonrandom association (linkage disequilibrium) with genotypes at the loci ignored. In these cases, phenotypic differences between ci...
متن کاملKinetic study of the fast thermal cis-to-trans isomerisation of para-, ortho- and polyhydroxyazobenzenes.
The thermal cis-to-trans isomerisation process has been studied for a series of para-, ortho- and polyhydroxy-substituted azobenzenes in different solvents. The kinetics of the thermal back reaction for the p-hydroxy-substituted azobenzenes depend strongly on the nature of the solvent used, with relaxation times ranging from 200-300 milliseconds in ethanol to half an hour in toluene. Otherwise,...
